NIH Increases Funding for Mice
November 2004

The National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) at NIH has recently increased funding for the production of more Ts65Dn mice used for Down syndrome research. The increase in funding is $250,000 over a two-year period. The funding will be directed to the Jackson Laboratory in Maine for breeding and maintenance of the research mice.

DSRTF in collaboration with the National Down Syndrome Society has been working with NIH to increase funding for the production of more Ts65Dn mice for more than two years. "This funding comes at a critical juncture in Down syndrome research and is most needed," said Hollye Doane of DSRTF. "We thank Dr. Duane Alexander and Dr. Yvonne Maddox of NICHD for their leadership in helping to resolve the current under-supply of research mice. We look forward to continuing to work together to fund research for the development of better mouse models for future research."
